Macallan The Munro's 31 yr (dist.1991) Single Malt Whiskey 700ml
Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid on the banks of the River Spey in Speyside, Scotland, and has grown into one of the most sought-after names in single malt whiskey, prized for its heavy reliance on sherry-seasoned oak. Now owned by Edrington, the distillery is known for producing spirit destined almost entirely for sherry cask maturation rather than the ex-bourbon route favored by many of its Speyside neighbors.
This expression was distilled in 1991 and rested for thirty-one years before being independently bottled under the Munro's label, a name with roots in a historic Leith whisky blending house now used for select cask releases. The whiskey is a vatting of sherry casks, reflecting the long, patient maturation that defines Macallan's oldest expressions, and is bottled at 40.5% ABV.
Given more than three decades in wood, the whiskey shows the elegance typical of extended sherry cask aging. The nose is refined and precise, while the palate turns rich and full-bodied, carrying the deep, dried fruit and oak character built up over years in cask. The finish is notably long, with a graceful, lingering elegance.
