Metaxa 12 Stars Brandy 700ml
Metaxa was founded in 1888 by Spyros Metaxa, who built the company's first distillery in Piraeus, the port of Athens. Born into a family of silk merchants, Metaxa drew on spirits and wines he encountered during his travels to create something entirely his own. The company relocated its distillery and cellars to Kifissia, a northern suburb of Athens, in 1968, and today Constantinos Raptis serves as the fifth master blender in the house's history, continuing a lineage of craftsmanship built over more than a century.
Metaxa 12 Stars begins with a base spirit double distilled in traditional copper pot stills from Savatiano, Sultanina, and Black Corinth grapes. This distillate is blended with aged Muscat wines sourced from the islands of Samos and Lemnos, then infused with a proprietary mix of Mediterranean botanicals, including rose petals. The finished blend rests for a minimum of twelve years in French Limousin oak, split between medium and heavily toasted casks, before bottling at forty percent alcohol by volume.
The result is rich amber in color, opening with aromas of dried fruit, honey, rose, and toasted oak. The palate is smooth and layered, offering raisin, fig, and orange peel alongside warm spice and dark chocolate, finishing long and gently warming. Enjoy it neat, over ice, or alongside dark chocolate and grilled lamb.
