Perched nearly eighteen hundred feet above sea level on the highest vineyard hill south of Montalcino, the 2020 Poggio Antico Lemartine captures a uniquely elevated microclimate across ninety-one acres of certified organic land. Founded in 1976, the estate farms fifteen distinct soil units separately, harvesting each plot at peak maturity to reflect individual site character. This Toscana Rosso IGT blends roughly seventy percent Cabernet Sauvignon with thirty percent Sangiovese, aging the varieties together to maintain a seamless bridge between international grape structure and native Tuscan vitality.

The 2020 vintage pours rich and generous, offering a core of cherry and raspberry supported by fragrant wild rosemary, crisp minerality, and subtle baking spices. Cabernet Sauvignon provides a dense backbone and savory depth, while Sangiovese injects lively brightness throughout the mid-palate. The resulting profile features smooth, succulent fruit wrapped around firm, grippy tannins that lead to a long, well-balanced aftertaste. Structural integration signals favorable cellaring potential, with the wine rewarding additional bottle time to fully harmonize its components.

Pair the concentrated fruit and persistent finish with robust proteins and complex fats. Grilled duck breast complements the wine’s herbal notes and supple texture, while a selection of hard aged cheeses highlights the stony minerality and drying tannins without overwhelming the delicate spice profile. This bottling delivers a transparent, high-elevation organic expression built for either near-term dinner service or structured long-term aging.

94 Points
"Rich, boasting cherry, raspberry, wild rosemary, mineral and spice flavors, this red is also smooth and succulent. Firm tannins grip the finish, yet this finds a nice equilibrium as it winds down on the long aftertaste. Sangiovese. Best from 2026 through 2042. 439 cases made, 250 cases imported."
