Domaine Huet was founded in 1928 when Victor Huet purchased his first vineyard on the outskirts of Vouvray, just east of Tours on the Loire's right bank. His son Gaston took full charge of the estate by 1937 and went on to become one of biodynamic farming's earliest champions in France, a practice the domaine has maintained for decades across its three historic vineyards. That legacy of meticulous, low-intervention viticulture continues to define Huet's reputation as the benchmark producer for age-worthy Chenin Blanc.

Clos du Bourg is a walled, six-hectare vineyard on the first rise above Vouvray's church, among the oldest planted sites in the appellation. Its shallow clay-limestone soils over tuffeau bedrock, combined with a southerly exposure and vines averaging around forty years old, give the wine its characteristic density. Grapes are picked by hand, then fermented partly in seasoned demi-muids and partly in vat before an extended aging period.

The wine opens with aromas of grapefruit, confit citrus, and spring flowers, joined by notes of quince, beeswax, and wet stone. On the palate it is medium to full bodied, dense and slightly austere, with a phenolic grip that mellows into a long, mineral finish. Serve with roast veal, shellfish in cream sauce, or fresh goat cheese.

93 Points
"A lacy, seductive version, with impressive range to its notes of chamomile, heather, honey water and blanched almond, all atop a crunchy core of quince and nectarine. Its sneaky density builds, electrified by juicy acidity that uplifts the plumpness. The elegant finish is marked by smoke and a cool rush of alpine herbs. Stunning. Drink now through 2040. 700 cases made."
