Absolut traces its roots to Lars Olsson Smith, a Swedish entrepreneur who by his twenties already controlled a significant share of vodka sales in his home country. In 1879 he introduced continuous distillation, a method that ran the spirit through far more passes than the traditional three or four, stripping out impurities while preserving the character of the base ingredients. That same process still defines the brand today, produced in and around Åhus in southern Sweden, the town where Smith was born. Absolut Citron, launched in 1988 as the second flavored expression in the lineup, carries that legacy forward as one of the brand's longest-running and best-selling flavored vodkas.

Absolut Citron starts with the same winter wheat base and deep well water used in the standard Absolut recipe, distilled continuously in Åhus for a clean, consistent profile. Natural lemon flavor is the dominant addition, with a touch of lime rounding out the citrus character. No sugar is added at any stage, which keeps the finished vodka dry rather than sweet, letting the true fruit flavor come through clearly in the glass.

The nose opens with bright, zesty lemon, layered with a hint of orange blossom and the faint grain character of the wheat base. On the palate, tangy lemon and lime notes arrive together, smooth and well balanced, with a touch of lemon peel bitterness adding structure.
