Svedka Vodka 1.75L
Svedka was launched in 1998 by Guillaume Cuvelier, a former Moët Hennessy executive who set out to occupy a niche between cheap rail vodka and pricier imports, positioning the brand as an affordable, high-quality option. The name combines "Svenska," meaning Swedish, with "vodka," reflecting its origins in the small town of Lidköping, Sweden. Constellation Brands acquired Svedka in 2007 for $384 million, and ownership passed to the Sazerac Company in 2024, though the brand continues to build on the production philosophy established at its founding.
Svedka is traditionally distilled from Swedish winter wheat using a continuous column still, a method designed to keep wheat, yeast, and water constantly moving through the system rather than settling in batches. At the final stage, the spirit passes through high-performance purification columns five separate times over a process that can take more than 40 hours, removing impurities while preserving a clean, neutral character. The finished vodka is charcoal filtered and blended with limestone-filtered spring water before bottling at 40% ABV.
The nose is true to a well-made neutral spirit, offering little in the way of distinctive aroma beyond a faint grain note. On the palate, the entry is smooth and clean, building to a crisp, slightly arid sensation through the mid-palate. The finish is warm and well-rounded, closing with the same understated clarity that defines the spirit from first sip to last.
