2022 Brook & Bull Cellars - Come Hell or High Water Red Columbia Valley (750ml)
Brook & Bull Cellars is winemaker Ashley Trout's latest project in Walla Walla Valley, established in 2016 as her third winery. Ashley began her winemaking career at 18, spending the better part of a decade working harvests in Mendoza, Argentina, and has been an integral part of the Walla Walla wine scene since 1999. Brook & Bull is a return to her roots of varietal-driven, nuanced, intricately balanced wines, sourced from top vineyard sites in the rolling hills of the Walla Walla Valley's Southside, in the foothills of the Blue Mountains.
Come Hell or High Water is a red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Counoise, and Syrah. Trout's experience working with Argentine winemaking traditions shapes her approach, and this blend has become a signature bottling in the Brook & Bull lineup. The winery is a 2,000-case operation, hand-crafting wines from small fruit lots with a focus on balance across alcohol, acid, phenolics, and tannin. The reds tend to age nicely through year eight.
Recent vintages of Come Hell or High Water have shown a more robust character, delivering graphite and leather, campfire and strawberries, followed by raspberries, tobacco, and savory notes, finishing with sage and lavender and the slightest hint of apricot and melon. Lush tannins meet mouthwatering acidity in what the winery considers a true expression of the West.
This is a versatile, food-friendly red suited to grilled meats, hearty stews, or a simple charcuterie board.
