Angel's Envy Rye Whiskey 750ml
Angel's Envy was founded in Louisville by father and son team Lincoln and Wes Henderson, with the brand making its first appearance in 2011 after Lincoln, a longtime master distiller, set out to build something distinctly his own. The company's signature idea was finishing whiskey in barrels that had previously held other spirits, an approach that debuted with a port-finished bourbon and expanded in 2013 to include this rye finished in Caribbean rum casks. Lincoln Henderson passed away that same year, and his legacy has continued through the brand's ongoing commitment to experimental cask finishing, most recently under Master Distiller Owen Martin.
This is a high-rye whiskey that spends up to 18 months finishing in Caribbean rum casks after primary aging, a process the distilling team developed by sampling more than a hundred rums before settling on the right character to complement rye's natural spice. The casks used previously held rum aged in a cognac tradition, chosen specifically to enhance rather than mask the whiskey's underlying grain. The whiskey is bottled in small batches at 100 proof, with each release identified by batch and bottle number.
The nose brings warm vanilla, spice cake, and rum-driven caramel sweetness, while the palate layers maple sugar, dark fruit, and toasted oak against a backbone of earthy rye spice and black pepper. The finish runs long, closing with lingering vanilla and a touch of ginger.
