Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye Whiskey 750ml
Catoctin Creek Distilling Company was founded in 2009 by husband and wife Scott and Becky Harris, becoming the first legal distillery to operate in Loudoun County, Virginia since before Prohibition. The distillery is located in Purcellville, Virginia, in the heart of the Loudoun Valley, a region recognized as the birthplace of American whiskey. Becky Harris serves as Chief Distiller, and under her direction the operation has grown into one of the most decorated craft distilleries in the state, earning a reputation for old-world methods applied with a scientist's precision.
Roundstone Rye is built on a mash bill of 100% rye grain, sourced locally when available, and is mashed, fermented, distilled, and aged entirely on site in a pre-Prohibition style. The whisky rests in new Minnesota white oak casks for a period of just under two years before being bottled at 80 proof, non-chill filtered to preserve its grain character. The result is a young, small-batch expression that leans on quality ingredients and careful barrel selection rather than long aging.
On the nose, look for vanilla, dried fruit, and a touch of spice, while the palate brings caramel and rich butter toffee alongside raw wood and a peppery rye bite. The finish runs medium in length, closing with warm cinnamon and a lingering cocoa note. It's a versatile pour, equally suited to sipping neat or forming the backbone of a classic Manhattan.
