The Teeling family's connection to Irish whiskey stretches back to 1782, when Walter Teeling established a distillery in Dublin's Liberties district. That legacy resurfaced centuries later when Jack and Stephen Teeling founded the modern Teeling Distillery in 2015, just a stone's throw from Walter's original site, marking Dublin's first new whiskey distillery to open in well over a century. The brand quickly built a reputation for experimentation, and Single Grain became one of its signature releases, first launched in 2013 as one of a small handful of Irish single grain whiskeys on the market.

Teeling Single Grain uses an unconventional mash bill of 95% corn and 5% malted barley, distilled in a column still rather than a traditional pot still. What makes it distinctive is its maturation entirely in French oak ex-Cabernet Sauvignon casks sourced from California, aging for just over five years, an unusual choice for a grain whiskey that typically sees only ex-bourbon or virgin oak. The whiskey is bottled non-chill filtered with no added color at 46% ABV, a treatment more commonly reserved for premium single malts.

The nose brings red berries, grape, and plum alongside cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove, with a creamy vanilla sweetness underneath. On the palate, spice and toasted oak give way to mixed berries and damson before a drying tannic finish typical of red wine cask influence takes hold.

"A wholly unique style within Irish Whiskey, pushing the boundaries of convention, at the intersect of where old meets new.

Teeling Single Grain Irish Whiskey is crafted using an unconventional mash bill consisting of 95% corn and 5% malted barley that has been triple distilled and matured exclusively in French oak Ex-Cabernet Sauvignon red wine casks from California, producing a truly unique Irish Whiskey

tasting notes

The nose opens with spice and fruit notes that mingle with an underlying sweet, sugary note. The palate has a silky smooth mouthfeel, with a touch of spice and deep berry notes that balance the sweet undertones. The tannic influence of the red wine creates a unique, short, dry finish, encouraging another sip.
