Tullamore D.E.W. traces its name to the County Offaly town where distilling began in 1829, taking its initials from Daniel Edmund Williams, a longtime general manager who later took ownership of the distillery. The original site closed in 1954, and the brand passed through several owners over the following decades, including a long stretch under Irish Distillers with production based at Midleton, before William Grant & Sons, the Scottish family company behind Glenfiddich and Balvenie, acquired it in 2010. Today it ranks as one of the best-selling Irish whiskeys in the world, built on a recipe that predates most of its modern competitors.

What sets Tullamore D.E.W. apart is its claim as the original triple blend, combining three distinct styles of Irish whiskey rather than just two. Pot still whiskey, made from malted and unmalted barley, contributes spice and a creamy texture, while malt whiskey adds fruitiness and grain whiskey brings a light, sweet cereal character. All three components are triple distilled before being matured across a combination of ex-bourbon barrels, ex-sherry casks, and traditional refill barrels, a triple cask approach that rounds out the final blend.

The nose offers vanilla, caramel, and a touch of fresh flowers, with soft citrus and orchard fruit in the background. On the palate, green apple and light spice give way to a gentle malt sweetness and hints of butterscotch, finishing clean and slightly warming. Its light, versatile character makes it well suited to a whiskey and ginger ale or an Irish mule built with ginger beer and lime.
