2020 Seewines - Marsanne Roussanne Viognier Thracian Valley Colorito (750ml)
SeeWines is a project of AYA Estate Vineyards, a Bulgarian family with more than eighty years of experience in artisanal winemaking. The company's mission centers on reviving Bulgaria's endemic grape varieties and letting each site express its own terroir, an approach reflected across vineyard holdings that range from the warm Struma Valley in the southwest to a cooler plot near the Black Sea by Cape Kaliakra. The Colorito line, which includes this blend, was created under winemaker Mariana Galabova with the specific goal of capturing each grape's individual character within a single wine.
This bottling blends Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier, three grapes with roots in France's Rhône Valley, grown here in Bulgaria's Thracian Valley. The region benefits from a temperate continental climate, shielded from northern winds by the Stara Planina mountains, which allows for slow, even ripening. Winemaking aims to preserve what each variety contributes on its own: Marsanne's mineral backbone, Viognier's floral lift, and Roussanne's characteristic peach and lemongrass aromatics, rather than blending them into a single homogenous flavor.
The wine shows a pale straw-yellow color with fresh greenish tints. Aromas of citrus and melon lead into a mineral-driven palate, with Roussanne's herbal, grassy notes adding complexity alongside good structure and body. Pair it with fresh salads, light white meats, or pasta in a cream sauce.
