Far Mountain’s 2019 Chardonnay from Sonoma Valley marks the elegant debut of Rodrigo Soto and Mai Errazuriz—a duo whose California and Chilean wine-country pedigrees shape a bold, mountain-driven expression. Known for seeking out hard-to-reach sites, they blend fruit from two distinctly different vineyards to capture the region’s potential in a single, precise bottle. Myrna, meaning beloved, underpins this wine as a thoughtful union of terroirs and technique.

  • Bald Mountain — planted in 1972 on fractured volcanic rock high in the Mayacamas range, this block is home to heritage Wente clone vines that have been dry-farmed for decades. The site’s rugged character contributes density and mineral lift to the blend.
  • Thornton Vineyard — located near the base of Sonoma Mountain, these thirty-year-old vines benefit from cooler ocean air, adding brightness and contrast to the wine’s core.

The majority of the fruit comes from Bald Mountain, with a portion from Thornton Vineyard, creating a harmonious balance between depth and lift. The wine ferments with native yeast in barrel and ages for twelve months, with only a small portion of new oak to maintain the fruit’s freshness while adding subtle texture.

Tasting notes

Aromas of white flowers, lemon oil, and chalk lead into a polished palate of sliced apple, lemon rind, and stony minerals. The finish carries herbal, laurel-like spice that lingers with a confident elegance, revealing the mountain-grown character of the fruit.

Food pairing

  • Seared scallops in brown butter
  • Herb-roasted chicken
  • Creamy risotto

"Ripe melon, honeyed stone fruits, and spicy oak notes emerge from the 2019 Chardonnay Sonoma Valley, a classic, medium to full-bodied, layered, rounded Chardonnay that stays pure, balanced, and lengthy. Another impressive wine from this estate, it should evolve for 3-5 years, probably longer."

"The 2019 Chardonnay Myrna shows just how compelling the vintage is for white wines. Lemon oil,

white flowers, chalk and mint give the 2019 a brilliant upper register that almost comes as a

surprise once the wine shows its superb depth and persistence. This highly expressive, nuanced

Chardonnay has a lot going on and plenty to offer
