2023 Hin Areni - Voskehat Vayots Dzor (750ml)
Hin Areni is a leading winery in the village of Areni, in Armenia's Vayots Dzor region, home to the Areni-1 cave complex regarded as the oldest known winery site in the world. Founded in 2013 and fully renovated in 2023, the estate has grown into the area's most visited winery, drawing tens of thousands of guests each year while producing wine on a significant scale. It works primarily with Armenia's indigenous grapes, showcasing the identity of a region shaped by more than six thousand years of continuous winemaking.
This wine is made from Voskehat, often called the queen of Armenian white grapes, grown in vineyards reaching up to 1250 meters in the volcanic soils of Vayots Dzor. The grape favors these cooler, high altitude conditions, which help it hold onto natural acidity through the region's hot, dry summers, and it is vinified here as an ungrafted variety protected by designation of origin, reflecting the vines that have grown untouched by phylloxera in this remote corner of Armenia.
The wine is supple and elegant, offering floral and citrus aromas alongside notes of peach and white apricot, framed by a mineral undertone. On the palate it stays fresh and bright, with pleasant acidity carrying through a clean finish. It pairs beautifully with fish and seafood, lavash, and soft cheeses like chanakh.
