2023 Maurice Schoech - Riesling d'Alsace (750ml)
The Schoech family has tended vines around Ammerschwihr since 1650, though the estate took its present form in 1971 and now operates under brothers Jean-Léon and Sébastien Schoech. Their eleven hectares sit mostly on hillside slopes across a patchwork of Alsatian soils, limestone-marl, granite, sandstone, and even the volcanic ground of Rangen de Thann, spread among several Grand Cru sites including Kaefferkopf and Mambourg. The domaine has farmed organically since 2014, with grapes hand-picked at limited yields to preserve quality.
This village-level Riesling comes from vineyard parcels surrounding Ammerschwihr, pressed whole-cluster and fermented spontaneously in stainless steel before resting briefly on its lees. The approach favors a clean, precise expression of fruit over any overt winemaking influence, letting the site's character carry through to the glass.
The wine offers notes of apple, peach, and white flowers layered over pronounced minerality, all lifted by vibrant acidity into a dry, racy finish with real delicacy. It makes an elegant match for fish, shellfish, and seafood, and pairs just as well with roast poultry.
