2024 Barboursville Vineyards - Vermentino Reserve (750ml)
2024 Barboursville Vineyards Vermentino Reserve (750ml)
Barboursville Vineyards stands as Virginia’s pioneer wine estate, established in 1976 by Gianni Zonin, a seventh-generation winegrower from Gambellara, Italy. The property spans 900 acres in the Blue Ridge foothills, with 176 acres planted on red clay soils of volcanic origin, led since 1990 by winemaker Luca Paschina, an Italy-trained oenologist.
Vermentino, though native to Liguria, Corsica, and Sardinia, thrives in Virginia’s warm Piedmont climate. This wine is crafted by fermenting the grapes in stainless steel without malolactic fermentation, then aging in stainless steel with seven to eight months of lees contact. The result is a wine that balances freshness with texture, stylistically sitting between Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, with a lively Sancerre-like mid-palate and a finish reminiscent of Chablis.
Appearance: pale yellow with hints of silvery green; Body: medium-light.
Tasting profile: a crisp, fresh glass loaded with citrus, pear, and green apple, complemented by notes of stone fruit and a hint of almond. Aromas of lemon blossom and lychee round out the aroma, carrying through a dry, mineral-driven finish.
Food pairings and occasion
This Vermentino is a natural match for shellfish and fish in any preparation, making it a versatile, food-friendly white ideal for warm-weather entertaining.
