2024 Jean-Marc Boillot - Rully 1er Cru (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Jean-Marc Boillot began his winemaking career at his family's domaine, Henri Boillot, but left in 1984 determined to pursue his own approach to fruit selection and concentration. He spent four years as winemaker for Olivier Leflaive before establishing his own label, eventually inheriting vineyards from his grandfather Henri as well as from his maternal grandfather, the celebrated Etienne Sauzet. Today Boillot runs his domaine from the Boillot family cellars in Pommard, tending parcels across the Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise with a hands-on style shaped by decades spent working other growers' fruit alongside his own.
This premier cru bottling draws on Chardonnay grown in Rully, in the northern Côte Chalonnaise, where light, sandy soils and generous sun exposure favor early ripening and bright acidity. The grapes are harvested by hand and pressed gently, then fermented and aged in French oak barrels in the traditional Burgundian manner, a process that builds texture without overwhelming the fruit. The result is a Chardonnay with real Burgundian pedigree at a comparatively accessible price point.
The 2024 shows aromas of acacia blossom and honeysuckle layered over bright peach and lemon, with a flinty, mineral edge on the finish that is a hallmark of Rully's terroir. On the palate the wine is fresh and precise, with a subtle creaminess from barrel aging balancing its natural acidity. It makes a fine match for grilled fish, roast chicken, or fresh goat cheese, and should continue to develop further richness with a few years in the bottle.
