2014 Disznoko - Tokaji Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos (500ml)
Disznókő is a centuries-old estate in Hungary's Tokaj-Hegyalja region, first classified as Premier Cru in 1734 and among the earliest vineyards anywhere in Europe to receive formal recognition of quality. The estate spans 130 hectares of clay and volcanic soils on steep, south-facing terraces sheltered from prevailing winds, ideal conditions for the development of noble rot. Since 1992 Disznókő has been credited as a leading force in reviving the reputation of Tokaji Aszú, and the property is now owned by AXA Millésimes, which also holds Château Pichon-Baron and Château Petit-Village in Bordeaux.
This cuvée blends Furmint and Hárslevelű grapes affected by botrytis, individually hand harvested across multiple passes through the vineyard to capture each berry at its peak. The nobly rotten aszú berries are macerated in fermenting must before the wine completes fermentation, then ages for close to two years in oak barrels of Hungarian and French origin, building richness while preserving the vintage's natural acidity.
The wine shows a golden color with aromas of dried apricot, mango, caramel, and fresh honey, along with a touch of exotic spice and orange blossom. On the palate it is rich and creamy, balanced by vibrant acidity, finishing long and elegant. It pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses, or fruit-based desserts.
