2023 Samuel Billaud - Chablis Montee de Tonnerre (750ml)

Montée de Tonnerre borders François Raveneau's plots and is widely regarded as the finest premier cru in Chablis — a real step up in intensity from the neighboring Montmains bottling. Samuel Billaud's holding comes from two parcels in Chapelot and one in Montée de Tonnerre proper, aged mostly in tank with a touch of used oak to preserve the site's cool, mineral character. The 2023 is delineated and focused, with lime flower, citrus peel, and orange blossom on the nose, and a beautifully balanced palate carrying quicksilver acidity, real depth, and a harmonious, saline finish. A serious, age-worthy Chablis from one of the appellation's rising stars.
