Hourglass built its reputation on the Cabernet Sauvignon coming from the Smith family's Napa Valley properties, but the estate has also carved out a following for a Sauvignon Blanc unlike most versions grown in California, one closer in style and texture to a white Bordeaux. Winemaker Tony Biagi crafts the wine alongside owners Jeff and Carolyn Smith, applying the same detail-oriented, site-focused approach the winery is known for in its red wines to a variety often treated as an afterthought elsewhere in Napa.

This vintage draws on five contrasting vineyard sources stretching from Yountville in the south to Calistoga in the north, sourced roughly two-thirds from Napa County and one-third from Sonoma County, and blended with a small portion of Semillon for added richness. The grapes were fermented and aged across three distinct vessels, a mix of stainless steel, seasoned oak, and new French oak, then finished with regular lees stirring, a combination chosen to build texture and depth while preserving the wine's natural brightness and structure.

The nose opens with lemon, orange blossom, lime leaf, and pomelo, layered with lemongrass, fresh cut hay, and honeyed graham cracker. The palate carries grapefruit and mango balanced by warm spice and almond paste, with wet stone minerality lending a long, refreshing finish. It pairs nicely with grilled prawns, a citrus-dressed crab salad, or fresh chèvre.
