2025 Alpha Estate - Sauvignon Blanc (750ml)
The 2025 Alpha Estate Sauvignon Blanc is a compelling introduction to the high-altitude white wines of northern Greece, offering the aromatic exuberance of the variety with an Old World restraint that sets it apart from New Zealand or Loire benchmarks. Sourced entirely from Sauvignon Blanc vines planted across 69 hectares on the Amyndeon plateau in northwestern Macedonia, the vineyards sit at 620 to 710 meters above sea level. At this altitude, considerable rainfall and winter snow provide the vines with ample water reserves, while two neighboring lakes moderate the local climate, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. Poor, well-drained soils create a slight water deficit that concentrates flavors and aromas in the berries. Vinification is entirely in stainless steel, with extended skin contact, controlled fermentation with cooling jackets, and four months of aging on fine lees with regular stirring to build texture and depth.
The wine pours a brilliant light yellow with greenish tints. On the nose, it is strong and lively, offering classic Sauvignon Blanc character: gooseberry, passion fruit, melon, and lychee, with a delicate note of honeysuckle. The palate is round and mellow yet well-balanced, with a crisp, structured finish that echoes the fruit aromas and adds a bright hint of lime. A richly textured wine with superb length and persistent aromatics. The 2025 vintage was awarded a Gold Medal at the Thessaloniki International Wine & Spirit Competition. Pair with grilled seafood, shellfish, light pasta dishes, or the cuisine of eastern Mediterranean tradition.
