From one of Rioja’s great family houses. Muga has been making wine in Haro’s historic Barrio de la Estación since 1932, and it’s one of the few bodegas in the world with its own in-house cooperage. Their Blanco is a classic barrel-fermented white built mostly on Viura, with Garnacha Blanca and Malvasía Riojana from vineyards in Rioja Alta and Alto Najerilla.

Fermented in large oak vats and barrel, then aged four months on the lees, it’s fresh and lively rather than oaky. Expect tuberose, pear, melon, fennel and soft herbs, with an energetic, chalky palate, a subtle creamy texture and a long, stone fruit finish. A terrific value in white Rioja. Pair with grilled fish, garlic shrimp, chicken or creamy cheeses.

93 Points
"The 2025 Blanco, a blend of Viura, Garnacha Blanca and Malvasía from
Rioja, opens with lively primary aromatics of nardos, pear and soft
herbs alongside a hint of melon. On the palate, it is energetic,
combining elevated freshness with a delicate chalky texture and a
creamy undertone that adds breadth. The interplay between energy
and richness gives the wine clarity and drive through the finish. A
particularly successful vintage for this bottling, it offers excellent value
among Rioja whites.
