2014 La Clarté de Haut-Brion Blanc · Pessac-Léognan

Producer Domaine Clarence Dillon (Château Haut-Brion)
Vintage 2014
Region Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux
Blend 66% Sauvignon Blanc, 34% Sémillon
Aging Barrel-fermented and lees-aged

The white second wine of two legends — a blend drawn from the declassified lots of Château Haut-Brion Blanc and La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, arguably the two greatest dry whites in Bordeaux. Introduced in 2009, La Clarté offers a genuine glimpse of that first-growth white pedigree at a fraction of the price. The 2014, a vintage saved by a glorious Indian summer, leans toward Sauvignon Blanc's brighter register: crisp grapefruit, green apple, lemon confit, passion fruit, and melon lifted by that telltale sandy-gravelly Graves matchstick note. Barrel-fermented for texture, it's vivid and finely sculpted, with chalk, white pepper, and sage adding nuance over a taut, mineral-driven, energetic finish. Intense, brilliant, and super-expressive

96 Points
"Energetic white with sliced-apple, lemon and green-papaya aromas. Full-bodied, very vibrant, creamy, dense and powerful. So contrasty. Love it. Don’t miss this. 66% sauvignon blanc and 33% semillon. Drink or hold."
—James Suckling-James Suckling
92 Points
"This is a gorgeous wine, though it will just take a little while for the toasted macadamia nut and warm brioche notes to meld fully with the core of creamed mirabelle plum, Jonagold apple, lemon chiffon and tangerine. Be patient. Best from 2020 through 2030. 1,083 cases made."
