2021 Ruggeri Corsini - Barolo San Pietro (750ml)
Podere Ruggeri Corsini began when Loredana Addari and Nicola Argamante, both trained in agriculture and oenology, left careers in the city to take over a small vineyard-only property in Monforte d'Alba, at the heart of the Langhe hills. The estate is still a true family affair, run today by Loredana, Nicola, and Loredana's brother Lorenzo. Its name pairs "Corsini," the hamlet where the winery sits, with "Ruggeri," Nicola's mother's maiden name, in recognition of the financial support she gave to help the couple realize their vision.
Bricco San Pietro is a single vineyard of under a hectare in Monforte d'Alba, facing south-east on sandy, clay-loam soil between 420 and 470 meters above sea level, planted with Nebbiolo vines now over two decades old. After a lengthy maceration of fifteen to eighteen days, the wine completes malolactic fermentation and then ages for thirty months in large Slavonian oak barrels, a traditional approach that favors patience and gradual development over quick fruit-forward style.
The wine shows garnet color with brick edges, opening with violet, rose, and dried cherry, layered with licorice, tar, and a faint balsamic note. The palate is full-bodied and firm, with ripe tannins and tangy acidity carrying through a long, mineral-driven finish. It pairs beautifully with braised game, roast lamb, and polenta with aged cheese.
