Tolaini was founded in 2000 by Pier Luigi Tolaini, who left Tuscany at nineteen to build a career in Canada before returning home in 1998 to purchase land in Castelnuovo Berardenga, the warm southern edge of Chianti Classico. He brought in noted consultant Michel Rolland to help shape the estate's early wines, and since his passing in 2020 his daughter, Lia Tolaini-Banville, has continued the project alongside her own children.

Valdisanti comes from the estate's Tenuta San Giovanni vineyard and is made from equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, a departure from the traditional Sangiovese-based wines of the surrounding zone. The wine spends time in French oak barrels, and the fifty hectares of vines that supply it sit between 300 and 450 meters, where cool nights help preserve freshness even in a warm growing season.

The 2021 shows youthful, rich dark fruit alongside notes of berry, cassis, and a touch of French oak spice. On the palate it is full-bodied and generous, with deep fruit balanced by fine tannins and a long, structured finish built for the cellar. Pair it with roasted meats or pasta in a rich, slow-cooked sauce.
