Estate Argyros has been a family-run winery on Santorini since 1903, when the founder first planted vines on the island's volcanic slopes. The estate passed through three generations before Yiannis Argyros expanded its reach beyond the domestic market, and today it is recognized alongside Sigalas and Hatzidakis as one of Santorini's three benchmark producers. The winery farms organically and continues to rely on mules and traditional methods to work its historic vineyards.

Cuvee Gerontampelo, whose name translates to "old vine" in the local dialect, was created to showcase a bolder, more structured side of Assyrtiko. Fruit is selected from the estate's oldest organically farmed vines in Pyrgos, Megalochori, and Episkopi, trained in the traditional basket shape that shields the grapes from Santorini's relentless winds. After fermentation, the wine spends time in French oak, a departure from the stainless steel more commonly used on the island, adding weight and structure to the naturally high acidity of the fruit.

The result is a powerful, intensely concentrated white built for cellaring, with the volcanic minerality and saline edge typical of Santorini Assyrtiko layered under notes of citrus and toasted oak. Its structure and depth make it a natural match for grilled octopus, roasted monkfish, or aged sheep's milk cheeses.
