Hombros — named for the "shoulders" of the grape bunch, which are hand-selected during harvest — comes from old vines between 50 and 100 years old planted on steep slate-and-clay slopes at over 600 meters elevation. The 2022 shows cherries, cocoa, orange rind, and nutmeg on the nose, with a creamy, spicy palate, full body, ripe tannins, and a delicious fruit-and-nut chocolate character. "The 2022 Hombros hails from Valtuille de Arriba, Bierzo. A 100%Mencía, the garnet-purple wine aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. It delivers allspice, pomegranate, oak and bay leaf aromas. It's intense, with a loose structure and some grip, finishing savory and open-knit. The 2022 is slightly hollow at mid-palate but wellconcentrated with a clean, long finish.
