Côtes du Rhône · Clos du Mont-Olivet · Vieilles Vignes · 2022

One of the Southern Rhône's great insider secrets. The Sabon family's Châteauneuf estate produces this old-vine Côtes du Rhône from parcels in Orange and Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres — and the address is a dead giveaway in every sip. Grenache-driven, with wonderful aromas of summer flowers and ripe red fruit that fill out a full-bodied palate, with remarkably fine tannins for this appellation and notes of licorice and sandalwood giving the lingering finish real personality. Fermented in concrete, aged in a mix of foudre and cement — traditional, unhurried winemaking at its best. Serious QPR. Drink now–2028

93 Points
"Here's a beautiful introduction to the grenache grape in the Chateauneuf area, even if it has to carry the humble Cotes du Rhone appellation. Wonderful aromas of summer flowers and ripe red fruit that deftly fill out the full-bodied palate. Remarkably fine tannins for this appellation, and together with the licorice and sandalwood notes they give the lingering finish a lot of personality. Drink or hold."
