2022 Gurashvili - Saperavi Qvevri (750ml)
If the Rkatsiteli Qvevri is Georgia's most fascinating white, this is its magnificent red counterpart — and one of the most thrillingly authentic expressions of Saperavi you will find anywhere. Gurashvili is a multi-generational family winery carrying on centuries of traditional Georgian winemaking knowledge — organically farmed Saperavi vines grown at 400–500 meters elevation in the famed Kakheti region, hand-harvested in September and fermented in qvevri on native yeasts with full skin contact, then left to macerate for a month before bottling unfiltered and unfined.
Deep ruby with a pomegranate hue, the nose opens with pure, expressive aromas of blackberry, cherry, mocha, and spice — the palate bold, silky, and textured with juicy tannins, beautifully balanced acidity, and rich dark fruit flavors framed within a dense, lingering finish. Saperavi is one of the world's rare teinturier grapes — dark skin and dark pulp — producing wines of exceptional depth and age-worthiness that experts note can easily develop for ten years or more, with the qvevri method adding an earthy, mineral authenticity that no barrel or tank can replicate. This is Georgia in a bottle — ancient, soulful, and absolutely alive
