The Calling was founded as a partnership between sportscaster Jim Nantz, entrepreneur Peter Deutsch, and winemaker James MacPhail, a trio united by a shared belief in pursuing one's true calling in life. Together they source fruit from standout sites across Sonoma County, aiming to craft wines that offer genuine varietal expression at an accessible price point. Their Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon reflects that mission, built to showcase the region's reputation for producing some of California's finest Cabernet grapes.

The 2022 vintage is composed entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Alexander Valley, a broad stretch of land bisected by the Russian River and shielded by surrounding hills that keep coastal fog at bay, giving the area a warmer growing climate than many of its neighbors. Combined with well-drained, gravelly soils, these conditions allow the grapes to ripen fully. Fruit was hand-sorted, gently crushed, and fermented with native yeasts in barrel, followed by an extended maceration to soften the tannins before eighteen months of aging.

This Cabernet pours a deep cherry red and opens with classic aromas of black fruit, toasted spice, blackcurrant, and dark chocolate. On the palate, ripe blackberry pie flavors unfold alongside black pepper, vanilla, and cinnamon, framed by tannins that are firm yet silky through a long finish. It suits grilled steak, braised short ribs, or aged cheddar.
