The Calling was founded by sportscaster Jim Nantz, entrepreneur Peter Deutsch, and winemaker James MacPhail, three partners who set out to make wines that reflect a genuine sense of place while remaining approachable in price. Their portfolio spans the top growing regions of California's Central Coast and North Coast, and this bottling turns to Paso Robles, an appellation prized for Rhône varieties as well as increasingly acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon.

This 2022 release is crafted entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grown within the Paso Robles AVA, a warm, sprawling region tempered by maritime breezes and cooling downslope winds off the surrounding hills. Alluvial soils ranging from sandy to clay loams give the vines a favorable base for concentrated fruit development. The grapes underwent a cold soak followed by small batch fermentation, then the finished wine spent eighteen months aging in French oak to build structure and depth.

The glass shows a deep plum red hue with aromas of ripe blackberry, mocha, and warm vanilla spice layered with subtle nutmeg. On the palate, bold flavors of cherry pie and coffee unfold into a warm, spicy oak finish, carried by soft, well-integrated tannins. It pairs nicely with grilled lamb chops, barbecued brisket, or a sharp aged gouda.
