Francesco Cirelli founded Agricola Cirelli in 2003 near Atri, in the Abruzzo region along Italy's Adriatic coast, building a biodynamic farm where vines grow alongside olive trees, figs, and free-roaming livestock. He began experimenting with amphora vinification almost from the start, sourcing terracotta vessels from Tuscan artisans and partially burying them in sand and stone to regulate temperature during fermentation. That early curiosity grew into a defining signature, and Cirelli is now recognized as one of Abruzzo's most distinctive natural winemakers.

This bottling is crafted from 100% Montepulciano grapes grown organically on the estate. After a short maceration of roughly eight to twelve days, the must ferments spontaneously with native yeasts inside clay amphorae, which also host malolactic fermentation. The wine then ages in amphora for close to a year, a process that allows gentle micro-oxygenation while avoiding any oak influence, preserving the grape's natural texture and varietal character.

The result is a medium-bodied red with aromas of wild blackberry, black cherry, and dried herbs, layered with soft spice and a touch of earthiness. Tannins are gentle and well-integrated, balanced by bright acidity and a savory, mineral finish. Pair it with grilled sausages, roasted lamb, or aged pecorino cheese.
