2023 Taub - Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer GIII (750ml)
Taub Family Vineyards is led by Marc Taub, whose family has shaped American wine culture for close to a century, from introducing Italian Pinot Grigio to the United States in the 1970s to today's focus on single-vineyard Napa cabernet. Marc now works alongside his son Jake, and winemaker Maayan Koschitzky crafts small-lot wines from some of the valley's most storied sites, including a long-standing relationship with grower Andy Beckstoffer.
This wine comes from Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III, a 300-acre parcel in the heart of Rutherford first planted in 1895 and later developed by Georges de Latour, whose winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff made it famous in the 1960s. The gravelly, sandy loam soils sit between Conn Creek Road and the Silverado Trail. The 2023 growing season ran long and even, with generous winter rains and a mild, steady summer that let the fruit ripen gradually. Grapes were harvested at night and destemmed, then fermented in small, block-specific lots before the wine aged eighteen months in French oak.
The wine shows dark cherry, cassis, and floral lift on the nose, with dense black fruit, caramel, and tobacco carrying through to a long, polished finish. Pair it with venison, dry-aged strip loin, or a rich blue cheese.
