2023 Vietti - Langhe Nebbiolo DOC Perbacco (750ml)
Vietti is one of Piedmont's oldest and most respected wine estates, founded in 1873 at the top of Castiglione Falletto in the heart of the Langhe hills. The winery passed to the American Krause family in 2016, though Luca Currado Vietti and his wife Elena have stayed closely involved in guiding the wine's style and quality. Vietti remains best known for its Barolo crus, and Perbacco grew directly out of that expertise, built as an accessible introduction to the estate's Nebbiolo.
Perbacco is 100% Nebbiolo, sourced from fifteen different grand cru vineyards across the communes of Barolo and Barbaresco, at elevations between 150 and 450 meters on calcareous marl and compressed sandstone soils. Vines are mostly twenty to fifty years old, trained using the single Guyot method under organic, Equalitas-certified farming. Each cru is fermented and aged separately before the final blend is assembled, then rests for two years in large oak botti.
The wine shows fruity aromas of raspberry, currant, and mint layered with warm spice, backed by round, elegant tannins and a long, refined finish. It drinks powerfully in youth but gains complexity with time in the bottle. It pairs well with stews, game dishes, and mature cheeses.
