2023 Vina Cobos (Paul Hobbs) - Malbec Valle de Uco Bramare Vineyard (750ml)
Paul Hobbs, the acclaimed California winemaker who first landed in Argentina in 1988, founded Viña Cobos to prove Malbec could speak of place rather than just deliver easy, fruit-forward drinking. Sourced from vineyards across San Carlos, Tunuyán, and Tupungato at 3,100 to 4,850 feet elevation, on stony, limestone-flecked soils with very low organic matter, a terroir that gives this bottling more tension and mineral drive than its sister wine from Luján de Cuyo. Hand-harvested with shears and manually sorted berry by berry, fermented in stainless steel with spontaneous malolactic fermentation, then aged 18 months in French oak, 20% new, and bottled unfined. Expect a deep purple color with a complex nose of red fruit and violets, layered with baking spice, moving into a structured, mineral-driven palate that reflects the high-altitude Uco Valley site. A serious, terroir-focused Malbec from one of Argentina's most respected international winemakers.
