Alexandre Monmousseau, a fifth-generation winemaker from a respected family in the Loire Valley, produces this wine under his own name at Chateau Gaudrelle in Vouvray. The estate has built its reputation on expressive, terroir-driven Chenin Blanc, and the Monmousseau name has long been associated with the appellation's traditional, age-worthy style.

Clos le Vigneau is a single vineyard site within an area historically known as "les Gués d'Amant," or Lover's Gap, overlooking the Loire river. Many of the vines were planted in 1929 in soils of clay-limestone, flint, and gravel. Yields are kept low for concentration, and grapes are harvested entirely by hand. Pressing is slow and gentle, with fermentation taking place in stainless steel followed by two rackings and a light filtration before bottling, preserving the wine's fresh, unoaked character.

This 100% Chenin Blanc offers flowery, honeyed aromatics layered with apricot, honeysuckle, ripe apple, and peach, along with a touch of dried herb and underbrush complexity. The palate is fresh and slightly off-dry, medium-bodied with a mineral edge that lingers through the finish. It pairs beautifully with roast poultry, rich fish like salmon, or soft, creamy cheeses.
