Léoville Las Cases - a Super Second that rivals the First Classified Growths

Since 1901, Château Léoville Las Cases, 2nd Grand Cru Classé in Saint-julien, has been one of the Delon family's gems. Its terroir is primarily located in the Clos de Léoville Las Cases, which you pass through when leaving the village of Saint-Julien towards Pauillac, part of which is located right next to Château Latour. The Grand Vin of Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases possesses completely unique characteristics. The wines age beautifully and can last for decades with a great level of intensity. When you taste an old Léoville Las Cases you always get something special, and often surprising.

The 2025 vintage :

The 2025 vintage marks both the Delon family’s 125th anniversary at Las Cases and the first vintage overseen by Arnaud Delon, representing the fifth generation.

This vintage stands out for its warm, sunny growing season, tempered by the natural influence of the Gironde. Careful work in the vineyard throughout the vegetative cycle, notably through higher canopy trimming to provide greater shade, helped protect the grapes and preserve freshness.

Marked by the earliest harvest in the estate’s history, the 2025 Grand Vin displays a particularly successful balance between ripeness and acidity, giving it a serious, vibrant and remarkably precise profile.

It offers a pure expression of the Grand Enclos, with the depth and structure that define the greatest vintages of Las Cases.

97-100 Points
"Based on a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Merlot that's resting in 80% new barrels, the 2025 Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the wines of the vintage and just has an incredible sense of class, balance, purity, and richness. Harvest began on September 5th, the earliest ever for this estate, wrapping up on the 20th. Cassis, graphite, liquid minerality, and freshly sharpened pencil all define the nose, and it's full-bodied on the palate, with a round, layered mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish. If this doesn't make your eyes roll back in your head, nothing will. It checks in at 13.65% alcohol with a pH of 3.56."
