2025 Morgadio - Albarino Rias Baixas (750ml)

Morgadío traces back to 1984, when several existing landholdings near the village of Albeos were consolidated into a single estate and planting began in earnest. The property sits in Condado do Tea, the easternmost and most inland of Rías Baixas's subdistricts, along the north bank of the Miño River in a setting often compared to Germany's Rheingau. In the years between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s, work done at this estate played a significant role in establishing Albariño as one of the wine world's great white varieties, well before the grape had earned its current global reputation. A state-of-the-art gravity flow winery was completed in time for the 1988 harvest, and since 1996 the Méndez family of Orense has continued investing in the property to refine quality further.

This wine is crafted entirely from Albariño grown on vines over forty years old, planted on sandy, granite-rich soils at elevations up to 650 feet. Grapes are hand harvested and crushed quickly to preserve freshness, then fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures before resting on the lees for at least three months.

The glass shows a pale straw color with a greenish rim, with aromas of white fruit and apple. The palate is smooth and lightly fruity, touched with citrus and grapefruit, closing on a clean, persistent finish. Pair it with steamed clams, pan-seared sole, or a light seafood paella.
