Don Julio 1942 Anejo Tequila 750ml

Don Julio 1942 traces its name back to 1942, when a seventeen year old Julio González-Frausto Estrada began distilling tequila at his family's Tequila Tres Magueyes distillery, which today operates as NOM 1449 in Atotonilco el Alto, in the highlands of Jalisco. The brand has grown into one of the best known names in premium tequila and is now owned by Diageo, though production still centers on the same highland region that shaped its founder's original style.

This añejo is made from 100% blue Weber agave grown in the Jalisco highlands, cooked slowly and distilled in small batches before resting in hand selected American oak barrels previously used for bourbon. Where the añejo category requires a minimum of one year, Don Julio 1942 is aged for a minimum of two and a half years, a longer rest that allows the spirit to pull noticeably more color, sweetness, and oak character from the wood than a standard añejo would show.

The extended aging shows in the glass as a deep golden amber hue. Aromas of rich caramel and dark chocolate lead into a palate built around cooked agave, toasted oak, silky vanilla, and a hint of dark chocolate, with a long, warming finish that lingers with oak and vanilla well after the last sip.
