Espolón was founded in 1996 by master distiller Cirilo Oropeza and his partners, who built the brand around Destiladora San Nicolas in the high-altitude Los Altos region of Jalisco. The distillery and brand were sold to Campari Group in 2008, and Espolón's striking labels, inspired by the skeleton illustrations of 19th-century Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada, have become closely tied to Día de los Muertos imagery and to the brand's identity.

This reposado is made from 100% Blue Weber agave, cooked using a slow steam-heated stone oven process, then fermented in stainless steel and distilled twice through column and pot stills with copper coils. It rests for at least two months in American oak barrels, with the brand's fuller expression aged up to six months, a maturation that develops its color and layers oak character over the base spirit without erasing the agave beneath it.

The nose carries spicy caramel fudge with oak, butterscotch, and cinnamon. On the palate the tequila is bold and medium to full bodied, with roasted agave joined by tropical fruit, vanilla, and warming spices such as black pepper, finishing long with lingering spice and a touch of citrus.

"Our tequila Reposado starts off life as Blanco. It's then rested in lightly charred, new American oak barrels to create a more complex and well-rounded character uniquely Espol?n. This one begs to be shared in cocktails that deserve even greater tequila character."
