Glen Turner Heritage Double Cask Port Finish Single Malt Whiskey 700ml
Glen Turner is produced by Glen Turner Distillery Ltd in the Scottish Highlands, following traditional single malt methods from mashing through pot still distillation. The brand's range centers on two core expressions: the Heritage Double Cask reviewed here, and the longer-matured Malt Legend, which spends twelve years entirely in bourbon casks, giving the distillery a chance to showcase two distinct approaches to cask influence from the same base spirit.
Heritage Double Cask begins its maturation in American oak casks that previously held bourbon, which builds a foundation of vanilla, caramel, and subtle spice, before the whisky is transferred to former port wine casks for a finishing period. That final stage brings dried fruit, red berry, and wine-driven depth to what would otherwise be a lighter, more straightforward single malt. It is bottled at 40% ABV without an age statement.
The nose offers sweet red berries, vanilla, and caramel, layered with fine wood spice. On the palate, dark fruit and honey meet malt and a touch of cinnamon, developing a soft, rounded texture rather than sharp oak tannin. The finish is medium in length, gently sweet and spiced, with lingering fruit and a subtle woody note carrying through to the end.
