Manga sake is produced in Hyogo Prefecture's Nada district, widely regarded as the birthplace of sake and still one of Japan's most respected brewing regions today. The brewery tracing back to the nineteenth century Meiji era, and its sake is crafted under the direction of master brewer Naruhiko Nakamura. The playful branding draws directly on Japan's globally recognized manga art style, giving this otherwise traditional junmai a distinctly modern, pop culture presence on the shelf.

True to its junmai classification, Manga is brewed using only rice, rice koji, and water, with no added distilled alcohol. That water is Miyamizu, a legendary spring source that wells up in the Nada district and has long been credited with giving Nada sake its clean, balanced character. The combination of quality water and careful brewing produces a sake built for approachability rather than intensity.

On the nose, look for mixed berries, ripe melon, and a touch of earthiness, with a semi floral quality on the first sip. The palate brings dried fruit flavors that gently fade into a soft, easy finish. Serve it chilled, at room temperature, or warm, and pair it with yakitori or tempura.
