1963 Rebello Valente Vintage Port

Bottled over six decades ago and matured slowly in glass, this 1963 Rebello Valente Vintage Port delivers the refined complexity expected of a celebrated twentieth-century Declaration year. Originally established by Robertson Brothers in 1881 and supplemented from Quinta de La Rosa vineyards before Sandeman’s 1953 acquisition, the Rebello Valente label appears on essentially no other Vintage Port after 1970. This makes your bottle a rare piece of port history rather than a current commercial release.

The wine was fortified midway through fermentation with grape spirit and aged approximately two years in large oak vats before bottling unfiltered. That deliberate lack of filtration protected concentrated fruit structures, allowing them to evolve steadily inside the bottle. Today, the liquid shows a mid red center that melts into an orange rim, signaling a wine firmly in its drinking window.

Nose and palate reveal soft spring flowers and elderflower opening into a clean, medium-bodied structure. Sweet butterscotch and caramel notes carry across the mid-palette before resolving into a gentle, lingering tingle. More than sixty years of bottle age have softened any initial vigour, leaving a composed, delicate profile suited for slow, attentive tasting.
