1963 Warre-Vintage Port (750ml)
Released during one of Port’s most celebrated calendar years, the 1963 Warre Vintage Port captures the concentration and aging capacity that collectors track. Extensively matured in seasoned timber before bottling, the wine has spent six decades evolving its primary fruit into deeper tertiary architecture. The palate opens with preserved figs, stewed plums, and black cherry compote, progressing through cocoa nibs, toasted hazelnut, and crushed velvet tannins. A lingering finish delivers sweet tobacco, cracked black pepper, and a faint graphite minerality that balances the underlying richness.
Due to extended bottle maturation, significant sediment will have precipitated. Stand the bottle upright two days prior to opening, then decant slowly into a separate vessel, leaving the heavy crystalline residue behind. Serve chilled to 16–18°C (60–65°F) in wide-bowled tulip glasses to concentrate aromatics without evaporating the alcohol too quickly. Pair with aged gouda, blue cheese, or bitter dark chocolate ganache. Sip steadily rather than gulping, as the weight and warmth demand deliberate pacing.
The 750ml format preserves enough volume to experience the full evolution across multiple pourings. Every surviving bottle reflects a harvest defined by intense summer heat and timely rainfall that compressed sugars and retained vital acidity—a combination that guarantees remarkable balance today.
