A fully mature 1977 Dow’s Vintage Port represents decades of careful development in bottle, delivering the concentrated fruit depth and structured elegance that defines historically significant Douro bottlings.

Cultivated in the Cima Corgu valley, this wine exhibits the characteristic weight and extended cellaring viability attributed to the 1977 harvest. At nearly half a century old, the vessel requires intentional preparation to unlock its evolved aromatic layers and safely navigate natural sediment accumulation.

The nose presents dried fig, stewed plum, and candied citrus, anchored by tobacco leaf, weathered cedar, and dark cocoa nib. On the palate, previously firm tannins have resolved into a supple, medium-heavy body supported by clear structural acidity. The finish carries persistent notes of black cherry reduction, wet stone, and warm clove spice.

Serve at cellar temperature between 60 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Stand the bottle upright for 48 hours prior to pouring, then decant slowly through a mesh strainer for approximately one hour to separate lees and allow controlled oxygenation. Ideal pairings include sharp, aged cheeses such as Roquefort or aged Gouda, unsweetened dark chocolate, toasted almonds, or traditional spiced nut biscuits. Consume within two to three days after opening to preserve its current plateau of drinkability.

93 Points
"This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1977, still a baby, is fabulously scented, very rich and concentrated, and has a potential longevity of at least another 30-50 years."
