Bottled exclusively from hand-picked Douro Valley grapes harvested during the acclaimed 1985 harvest, this 750ml Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port delivers the structured intensity and decades-long aging pedigree associated with the producer. Extended bottle maturation has mellowed the youthful firmness into a deeply layered expression ready for immediate enjoyment.

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Ripe blackcurrant, prune, and black plum unfold into earthy undertones of terracotta, aged leather, vanilla bean, and a whisper of crushed rose petals.
  • Mouthfeel: Dense and velvety with a central spine of dark chocolate, fig compote, and clove spice. Finish remains exceptionally long and grippy yet polished.

Serving Guidelines

Transfer the wine to a traditional decanter at least ninety minutes before service to allow gentle aeration and to leave the historic sediment behind. Optimal drinking temperature sits between 55 °F and 62 °F (13 °C–17 °C). Stand the bottle upright immediately after opening to stabilize remaining freshness, and aim to finish it within three days. Pairs reliably with intensely flavored cheeses, nut-based pastries, and fruit-forward desserts.

95 Points
"A very youthful deep garnet core with ruby rim. This has a much more precocious nose than the -83 with ripe blackberry, raspberry coulis, black olives and a certain minerality to it. Very fresh and well defined, the palate is full-bodied, certainly more structured and complex than the previous two declarations. Notes of black cherry, fig, raisin with a hint of savoury fruit towards the finish that has great length and refinement. Still in its youth, this has great potential and might be over-shadowed by the ensuing two vintages."
