1994 Quinta do Vesuvio - Vintage Port
The 1994 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port delivers a remarkably structured profile built around deep fruit, dark chocolate, and savory spice, characteristic of one of the Douro Valley’s most decisive warm years.
Grown across steep terraces in the Upper Douro, this 750ml bottle captures a harvest defined by intense ripeness and balanced acidity. Following fermentation and fortification, the must rested in seasoned wooden vats through its first winter before being bottled without fining or filtration. This traditional approach preserves the wine’s robust tannic backbone, ensuring a long aging trajectory and pronounced phenolic depth that rewards patient cellaring.
The flavor palette unfolds with concentrated blackberry, roasted fig, black tea, and a distinct slate-driven minerality. On the palate, initial density gradually yields to a velvety mouthfeel, closing with enduring persistence and a touch of aromatic cedar.
Decant this pour for at least ninety minutes prior to service to aerate the dense tannins and release the layered aroma compounds. Serve slightly cool, around 16°C to 18°C (60–65°F), using a stemmed tulip glass to concentrate the bouquet. It pairs reliably with intensely flavored aged cheeses, particularly Stilton or Comté, bitter dark chocolate, hazelnut pralines, or simply enjoyed on its own as a long, contemplative finish to dinner.
