2005 Chateau Haut Brion - Pessac (750ml)
A genuine unicorn vintage: the 2005 Haut-Brion earned perfect 100-point scores from essentially every major critic who reviewed it, Parker, Dunnuck, Galloni, Suckling, Anson, Perrotti-Brown, and Wine Spectator all agreed. A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, with only 9,000 cases produced. Jeb Dunnuck called it an absolutely perfect wine in every way, certainly one of the finest he's ever tasted. Wine Advocate noted its elegance and finesse, less powerful than sibling La Mission Haut-Brion but with incredible fragrance, subtle smoke and blue, red, and black fruit that persists endlessly in the glass, full-bodied yet delicate on its feet, with incredible length. Wine Spectator described coffee cake, blackberry, floral, coffee bean, and vanilla bean notes with Chinese spice, seamless, hyperpolished tannins, and a finish lasting minutes. Jane Anson called it the standout First Growth of her entire 2005 retasting. A once-in-a-generation Bordeaux, as close to flawless as the format allows.
