2005 Chateau Lafite Rothschild - Pauillac (750ml)
Widely considered one of the finest vintages in modern Bordeaux history, and Lafite's 2005 is a standout even among that exceptional company. A blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot, made in a deep, structured, linear style under then-technical director Charles Chevallier, with Emile Peynaud consulting in his final year with the estate. James Suckling found an incredible nose, subtle red fruit, mint, minerals, and flowers giving way to Cohiba cigar tobacco, with such freshness and density on the palate, perfectly polished tannins, and a slightly leathery character reminiscent of a fine Hermès bag. Expect graphite, spring flowers, crushed rocks, and sweet black cherry and currant fruit, medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, prioritizing elegance and poise over sheer intensity, classic Lafite through and through. A genuine First Growth landmark from one of the greatest vintages the region has ever produced.
