2008 Kopke - Vintage White Port HALF BOTTLE (375ml)
Quinta do Noval is one of the most storied estates in the Douro, historically tied to the Antonio José da Silva family and now owned by AXA Millésimes, under the direction of Christian Seely. The property is perhaps best known for its Nacional parcel, a small plot of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines that produces one of Port's most sought-after wines, though the estate's broader vintage bottling draws from the rest of the quinta's plantings. Noval's reputation rests on a style defined by purity of fruit and refined structure rather than sheer power.
The 2019 vintage was declared from a cooler growing season that nonetheless produced concentrated, well-structured wines across the Douro. This bottling is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, and Sousão, foot-trodden in traditional stone lagares before spending roughly eighteen months in oak. Only a limited allocation was released, representing a small share of the estate's total production that year.
The wine shows a dense, near-opaque color with aromas of blackberry, elderberry, and graphite, joined by savory herbal and floral notes. On the palate it is full-bodied and tightly wound, with ripe tannins and layers of black plum, licorice, and chocolate carrying through a long finish built for extended cellaring. Pair with wild game, a chocolate tart, or a firm, blue-veined cheese.
